Report Israeli fears of a new October 7 in Jerusalem

Khaberni - The Israeli media said that the state comptroller prepared a report, and it was published concerning the security situation in the Jerusalem area, confirming that it serves as a last alarm bell before the occurrence of a new attack, as claimed.

The Israeli Channel 14 quotes state comptroller Matanyahu Englman as stating definitively that despite the events of October 7, the security establishment and political leadership in Israel have not learned the necessary lessons in the Jerusalem area.

Englman stated upon releasing the report: "After the events of October 7, the government and the defense establishment should have learned their lessons and been optimally prepared for defense in all sectors. For this reason, I chose to audit the readiness of the front line in the Jerusalem area to face offensive incidents and security risks. The audit revealed that the lessons learned by the audited entities were insufficient and that similar shortcomings that appeared in other sectors have not yet been corrected," according to the channel's claims.

Moreover, the Israeli report adds that the most worrisome statistics in the report are that about 65 kilometers of the perimeter of Jerusalem, approximately 39% of the separation wall, lack a separating fence, showing a troubling picture that allows Palestinians to enter Israel without any supervision or inspection.

Englman also criticized the prolonged political stalemate, stating, "The Israeli Security Cabinet has not discussed the implementation of decisions taken 20 years ago." He added: "These deficiencies confirm the importance of timely discussion, examination, and oversight at the level of the security political leadership, especially in light of the changing security reality and the increasing threats after the events of 10/7/2023."

Englman points out that one of the major issues not implemented in the field is that it exposes observers to danger, placing them at exposed points, outside the settlements, without adequate protection—thus exposing them to the scenario of a mass ground raid, with the system ignoring the clear risk.

As happened with the "smart wall" in Gaza, the report reveals an excessive problematic reliance on electronic means, creating a false sense of security while the systems themselves collapse due to poor maintenance and malfunctions. According to the report, the auditor found that alarm systems, cameras, and sensors, which are supposed to replace the presence of security personnel, are not maintained as necessary.

The comptroller said the old concept had not been adapted to the threats identified on October 7. The systems are still operating based on old assumptions of "remote alarm" without effective protection that would prevent a physical breach of the barrier.

According to the report, the Shin Bet demanded immediate action to fix the mistakes, gaps, and malfunctions in the Jerusalem perimeter, barriers, and crossings, which would prevent a repeat of an incident like October 7.

The channel stated that the Comptroller, the Minister of Defense, and the Minister of National Security also demanded urgent action to organize the gaps between the responsibility of the police, the various bodies under it, and the Israeli army and their authority in carrying out their responsibilities in the Jerusalem border sector. This is to provide the best possible response to security needs at the barriers spread throughout Jerusalem and adapt to changing threats.

According to the Israeli channel, the financial comptroller's report proves that the concept of October 6 still dominates the perimeter of Jerusalem. With tens of kilometers breached, the observation points have become scattered, and the security devices uncoordinated—not only limited to walls but also clearly evident in the breached fence. The financial comptroller concludes his report with a warning that clarifies the seriousness of the current situation: These critical deficiencies are "in light of the changing security reality and increasing threats after the events of 7/10/2023."

Meanwhile, Israeli occupation forces continue their aggression on Qalandiya camp and the town of Kafr Aqab, north of occupied Jerusalem, since early afternoon today, Tuesday.

The Palestinian Red Crescent reported that its teams dealt with three injuries, one by live ammunition in the thigh, a shrapnel injury from live ammunition, and an injury resulting from assault.

Meanwhile, the Jerusalem Governorate reported that at least three citizens were injured by the occupation forces' gunfire, in addition to dozens of suffocation cases due to the release of toxic tear gas and sound bombs, and the arrest of several citizens, during the extensive raid conducted by the occupation forces in the town of Kafr Aqab and Qalandiya camp, accompanied by intensive military deployment and widespread raids on homes and businesses.

The governorate also reported that the occupation forces arrested citizen Anan Muhammad Taha and his father Muhammad Taha, residents of Qalandiya camp, detained several citizens, and assaulted them.

In a related context, the occupation forces raided several residential buildings located at the entrance of Qalandiya camp, taking positions on their roofs amid widespread deployment of soldiers in the surrounding area. They also forced civilians, under threat and use of force, to evacuate three residential apartments inside Hassan Awwad’s building opposite the large mosque of Qalandiya camp.

The occupation forces then turned one of the vacated apartments into a military barracks after forcibly evacuating its residents, announcing their intention to continue using it until nine in the morning the next day.

The raid involved forces from the Israeli army, its police, the Border Guard, the Tax Authority, and the occupation municipality, accompanied by a large number of bulldozers, cranes, and pliers.

The forces also raided dozens of commercial stores, seizing clothes bearing international brands, quantities of eggs and meats on the pretext of lack of license, in addition to seizing cigarette boxes on the pretext of tax evasion, worth tens of thousands of shekels.

The Jerusalem Governorate also reported that the occupation forces seized the contents of an agricultural nursery opposite the camp, harassed the work of ambulance crews, and assaulted the journalistic teams while covering the events in the field. They also directly fired sound bombs at school students in the area during their return from schools, in addition to seizing private surveillance cameras.

In a later development, the occupation forces began demolition operations on the main street extending from the Qalandiya military checkpoint to the town of Kafr Aqab, assaulting citizens' vehicles, where some were smashed and others seized, amid general apprehension about the expansion of demolition operations.

The occupation forces also began removing advertising boards from the center of the main street and in front of commercial stores, proceeded to demolish a bird shop owned by citizen Eyad Fayaleh, and erected a martyr memorial for Mahmoud Awad at one of the camp's entrances.

The occupation forces carried out the demolition of the martyr Mahmoud Awad memorial during the extended raid since the early hours.

The Israeli occupation forces closed the Qalandiya military checkpoint, leading to the detention of hundreds of citizens returning from occupied Jerusalem or heading there.
