Khaberni - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Al-Safadi conducted talks today with the Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh, focusing on efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza, and to stop the Israeli escalation in the occupied West Bank.
Al-Safadi and Al-Sheikh during their meeting in Amman emphasized the priority of ceasing fire in Gaza, adherence to all the ceasefire agreement terms, moving towards the second phase of the agreement according to the plan of President Donald Trump, and linking stabilization efforts to a clear political horizon to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
Al-Safadi and Al-Sheikh stressed that the future of the Gaza Strip must be based on its unity and connection with the West Bank and that the Palestinian National Authority should take responsibility for the sector as per United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, and they affirmed that the Gaza Strip is an indivisible part of the occupied Palestinian territory, which should establish an independent sovereign state based on the two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Al-Safadi and Al-Sheikh emphasized the need to intensify efforts to introduce humanitarian aid sufficiently and immediately into the sector and the necessity for Israel to fulfill its obligations according to the ceasefire agreement and international law and to lift all restrictions it imposes on the entry of aid.
Al-Safadi and Al-Sheikh discussed the serious deterioration in the occupied West Bank and stressed the need to unite all regional and international efforts to stop the illegitimate Israeli actions that lead to the explosion of the situation and undermine the chances of achieving just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution.
Al-Safadi and Al-Sheikh also emphasized the need for Israel to respect the historical and legal status quo of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and to remove all restrictions on freedom of worship. They confirmed the necessity for Israel to stop all restrictions on Christians and their right to practice their religious rituals, especially during the period of religious holiday celebrations.
Al-Safadi and Al-Sheikh confirmed the continuation of consultations and coordination, as well as working with brethren and partners towards achieving just and comprehensive peace, which entails ending the occupation and realizing an independent Palestinian state with sovereignty over the borders of June 4, 1967, and its capital in East Jerusalem, based on the two-state solution and in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
