Khaberni - "Seha" company, affiliated with the group "PureHealth", announced the introduction of laser kidney stone surgery technology for children in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, in a medical achievement that reflects its commitment to developing specialized healthcare services for children, and enhancing access to advanced treatment solutions for complex kidney stone cases.
The announcement comes after having treated a case of a 9-month-old child suffering from multiple kidney stones due to a rare genetic disorder known as "cystinuria", a disorder also affecting his two-year-old brother.
After the child underwent an urgent procedure to place a stent at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, aimed at alleviating kidney blockage, he received several sessions of stone fragmentation with laser, during which the stones were removed from the ureter and both kidneys simultaneously.

Dr. Hamid Reza Tousi, a urology consultant at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, said that laser stone fragmentation surgery is a very important intervention for children with kidney stones, noting that providing this procedure contributes to providing comprehensive care and long-term support for the children and their families.
He pointed out that children with kidney or bladder stones are more prone to recurrent stones and long-term complications, including reduced kidney functions; thus, patients are referred to pediatric kidney disease specialists for periodic evaluations, and kidney function monitoring, to mitigate these risks, and ensure continuity of exams and follow-up after surgical operations.
He confirmed that the close cooperation between urologists and specialists in pediatric kidney diseases represents a fundamental element in the comprehensive management of kidney stone cases in children.
