Khaberni - The number of fatalities in the crash of a small plane belonging to the Mexican Navy, which was conducting a medical transfer to Texas, USA, has risen to five, according to what the institution announced on Monday.
The incident occurred at sea while the plane, which was leased by a Mexican institution to aid severely burned children, was approaching Galveston near Houston, Texas.
The Mexican Navy clarified that five of the eight people on board were killed, while two are still alive. It had earlier reported two deaths.
It added that one person is still "missing" as search operations continue by the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its condolences and offered support to the families of the victims via the X platform.
According to the "Flight Radar" website, the plane departed from Merida Airport in the Mexican state of Yucatan (southeast) at 18:46 GMT. Contact was lost with it at 21:01 over the Gulf of Galveston near Scholes International Airport.
