Middle East University concludes an international project to empower female academic leaders

Khaberni - Middle East University has concluded the events of the Leading The Way project, funded by the British Council, and in partnership with London South Bank University.

The session included the former Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Rowaida Al-Maaytah, the President of Middle East University, Professor Salam Al-Mahadin, the President of the Applied Science Private University, Professor Samiha Jarrah, and the Director of International Programs at Middle East University, Professor Mai Abu Hamdiya, attended by a group of academics, and local and international partners.

The session reviewed the university's vision focused on enhancing women's empowerment in higher education, reaffirming the university's commitment to supporting initiatives and projects that contribute to the development of female leadership, and creating a more inclusive and equitable academic environment.

The event featured a specialized discussion session titled: "Women in Higher Education Leadership", managed by the national coordinator for the Leading The Way project in Jordan, Dr. Bayan Abu Safia, where the participants discussed their leadership experiences, pathways to decision-making positions, and the challenges faced by academic women, in addition to highlighting the importance of institutional mentoring, supportive policies, and professional networking in enhancing women's presence in leadership positions.

Furthermore, women make up about 40% of the faculty members at Middle East University, and the impact of the Leading The Way project extends beyond the university to include more than 19 Jordanian universities, with a focus on building an institutional environment supportive of academic women, with men participating as partners and allies in change.
