Two Daily Activities Linked to Increased Dementia Risk

Khaberni - The University of South Australia recently conducted a study that investigated the usual activities of 397 elderly individuals over 24 hours. The researchers sought to understand how different daily tasks could contribute to cognitive decline and dementia risk factors.

The results came as good news for avid readers and those who enjoy social interaction, as it was found that reading, crafts, conversations, listening to music, and prayer benefit brain health.

Harmful Activities

However, watching TV and playing video games could be harmful, according to "Sorry Life".

Dr. Madison Mello, who led the study, said: "We found that passive behaviors that promote mental stimulation or social interaction, such as reading or talking with friends, are beneficial for cognitive functions, while other behaviors, such as watching TV or playing electronic games, negatively affect. So, the type of activity is important."

Move more.. sit less

While the advice "move more, sit less" applies to cardiovascular and brain health, our research shows that a more precise approach is needed when considering the relationship between sedentary behaviors and cognitive functions.

Dementia includes a range of symptoms related to the progressive decline in brain functions.

According to this study's findings, relaxing after a busy day can take many forms, whether it's binge-watching the latest TV series or diving into an engaging book.

These findings come alongside reports that up to 45% of dementia cases could potentially be preventable through lifestyle changes.
