Russian authorities announced the death of a general in the Russian army as a result of a bombing that targeted his car in Moscow today, Monday.
The Russian Federal Investigative Authority stated that the deceased general is the head of the Directorate of Operational Training of the Russian General Staff, General Vaniel Sarvarov.
The authority added that the explosive device was placed under the car and that preliminary information suggests the involvement of Ukrainian intelligence in the assassination, explaining that it formed a committee to investigate the incident.
According to "Russia Today", media reports indicated that the explosion that occurred this morning damaged several vehicles in the southern part of Moscow, and resulted in the driver sustaining serious injuries.
Sarvarov, born in 1969, is one of the prominent military figures in the Russian army, having held sensitive field positions during the conflict in the Prigorodny region between Ossetia and Ingushetia, and participated in a number of military missions in Syria.
Sarvarov has received several high government decorations and awards and has held the position of head of the Directorate of Operational Training in the General Staff since 2016, a pivotal position linked to planning and combat readiness of the Russian armed forces.
