The law amending the Official Gazette Law was published in the Official Gazette on Sunday.
The amendment stipulates that the Official Gazette shall be issued in printed or electronic version by a decision of the Prime Minister whenever necessary.
The explanatory statement for the bill, which was earlier approved by the Cabinet, states that it aims to keep up with legislative and technological updates, especially since the current law was issued in 1949, and needs many amendments to be in line with these developments. It also addresses the need to establish a mechanism to regulate the publication process of the Official Gazette, as it is currently issued in both printed and electronic forms.
The amendments serve to grant legal status to the electronic publication of the Official Gazette, similar to the printed version, as part of keeping up with modern technologies, and to give electronic publication the same legal status as that prescribed for printed publication, as has been the case in many legislations.
The amendments to the bill allow the issuance of the Official Gazette by a decision of the Prime Minister, whenever necessary, in addition to the currently practiced publication schedules.
