Issued in the Official Gazette today, Sunday, System number (97) for the year 2025, related to the regulation of renting and owning immovable properties located outside the borders of the Petra Archaeological Reserve or other archaeological sites within the Petra Development and Tourism Region.
The system aims to regulate investment and ownership in the areas surrounding the archaeological reserve, achieving a balance between protecting the unique cultural heritage of Petra and enhancing sustainable tourist development in the Petra District, based on the provisions of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority Law number (15) of 2009.
The system, approved by the Council of Ministers on June 14, sets the legal frameworks governing the leasing and ownership of properties outside the reserve boundaries, with an emphasis on exempting archaeological sites covered by the antiquities law from any measures that affect their protection.
The system is effective from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, including clear definitions of terms related to its application, such as the region, authority, council, reserve, and immovable properties, contributing to the unification of legal references within the Petra Development and Tourism Region.
The system is expected to contribute to the regulation of real estate investment in the vicinity of Petra and enhance economic development opportunities for the residents of the Petra District, within legal controls that preserve the archaeological and tourist value of the site.
