The Libyan authorities announced on Sunday the adoption of DNA matching results for 19 cases among the victims of the hurricane that hit the city of Derna about two years ago, including two Jordanians.
The heavy rains and a dam collapse in Derna, about two years ago, led to the death of at least 4,000 people, including more than 500 foreigners, in addition to more than 3,000 other people missing.
The General Authority for the Research and Identification of Missing Persons said today, Sunday, that in the context of continuing efforts to follow up on the DNA matching results of the hurricane victims in the city of Derna, the identity of 19 previously unidentified cases was determined, among them two of Jordanian nationality, after their genetic data matched with reference samples from their relatives.
The authority added that the names that were identified have been referred to the Public Prosecutor's Office, according to the adopted laws, to take the necessary official actions.
