Venezuela announced yesterday, Saturday, that Iran offered its cooperation "in all fields" to combat "piracy and international terrorism", practiced by the United States, during a phone call between the foreign ministers of the two countries.
Iran is one of the most prominent allies of Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro, who accuses Washington of orchestrating a conspiracy to overthrow him.
The United States has deployed a massive military fleet in the Caribbean region, allegedly to combat drug smuggling.
Since the beginning of the month, the US forces have detained two tankers carrying Venezuelan oil, as part of a "comprehensive siege" announced by President Donald Trump.
The Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Hel, in a statement, said that the conversation with his Iranian counterpart focused on "the recent events in the Caribbean region, particularly the threats and acts of piracy practiced by the United States, and the theft of ships carrying Venezuelan oil."
He confirmed during the conversation that "Venezuela received conclusive evidence of the full solidarity of the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as its offer to cooperate in all fields to combat piracy and international terrorism, which the United States seeks to impose by force."
Iran has previously provided assistance to Venezuela, including fuel, food, and medicine.
China and Russia, both other allies of Venezuela, expressed their solidarity with President Maduro in facing the American military expansion.
