President of Brazil Any American Intervention in Venezuela Would Be Disastrous

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated on Saturday that "armed intervention in Venezuela would be a humanitarian disaster", in the context of his comments on the escalating American measures towards Venezuela.

U.S. President Donald Trump had ordered last Tuesday to impose a "blockade" on all oil tankers subject to sanctions entering and exiting Venezuela, in the latest move by Washington to increase pressure on the government of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, targeting its main source of income.
Lula and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, leaders of the two largest economies in Latin America, had already urged for restraint last week, amid escalating tensions.

However, Lula made a stronger statement on Saturday during a conference in the south of the country, describing it as a "dangerous precedent for the world."
He added that more than four decades after the Falklands War between Argentina and Britain, "South America is once again concerned about the military presence of a power from outside the region."
