New Israeli Incursion into the Countryside of Quneitra in Southern Syria and Setting Up Checkpoints

The Israeli army continued its violations of Syrian sovereignty, on Saturday, through a military incursion into the village of Ain Ziwan in the countryside of Quneitra Governorate in the south of the country, which included setting up a checkpoint.

The official "Syrian News Channel" reported that Israeli occupation forces penetrated the village of Ain Ziwan using five military vehicles, and established a checkpoint inside the village.

On Friday, Quneitra Governorate witnessed a protest in which dozens of Syrians participated in the city of Peace, denouncing the ongoing Israeli attacks targeting citizens and their properties in the area.

The protest was called by the "Syrians with Palestine" group, with the participation of some residents of Quneitra Governorate; participants raised banners and slogans rejecting the repeated Israeli violations of Syrian territory, as reported by the Syrian News Agency “SANA”.

For some time, and almost daily, operations of incursion carried out by the Israeli forces in southern Syria, particularly in Quneitra Governorate, have included setting up barriers, arrests, and forest destruction, thus escalating the public anger towards Tel Aviv.

Even though the Syrian government does not pose a threat to Israel, the Israeli army continues to carry out airstrikes resulting in civilian casualties, and the destruction of sites and military vehicles, in addition to weapons and ammunition belonging to the Syrian army.

Following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime on December 8, 2024, Israel announced the collapse of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement with Syria, and began to occupy the Syrian buffer zone.

Syrians assert that the ongoing Israeli violations hinder efforts to restore stability, and obstruct the government's attempts to attract investments and improve economic conditions in the country.
