AlShoubaki Significant Reduction Expected in Diesel and 95 Octane Gasoline Prices in Jordan

The economic researcher specializing in energy affairs, Amer Al-Shoubaki, expects the Jordanian government, during the January 2026 pricing, to make a substantial reduction in the price of diesel, reflecting the global decline in oil prices and the ongoing downward pressures on energy markets.

Al-Shoubaki stated that initial indicators suggest an expected diesel price reduction of about 4.5 piasters per liter, which equates to 90 piasters per tank, while a reduction in the price of 95 octane gasoline by about 5 piasters per liter is expected, with the price of 90 octane gasoline remaining unchanged.

Al-Shoubaki explained that the average global oil prices during the year 2025 are trending toward a decline of approximately 15% compared to the average of 2024, amid a slowdown in global economic growth, a decline in industrial demand, and a continuation of abundant supply, especially with the return of production capacities from OPEC+ countries that were out of the market during the past year.

Al-Shoubaki added that the accumulated weekly declines in the Platts newsletter for oil derivatives prices in the last weeks of the year were a decisive factor in enhancing the chances of reductions, especially for diesel, which witnessed a substantial decline in global pricing margins compared to the fall period.

Al-Shoubaki pointed out that this downward trend comes contrary to the traditional seasonal pattern, which usually sees an increase in diesel prices during winter. Despite geopolitical factors such as sanctions and tightened restrictions on exports from some producing countries, the weak European demand, a decline in industrial activity, and stable supply chains collectively contributed to curbing any usual upward pressures.

Al-Shoubaki concluded by saying that the continuation of this downward trend might give the Jordanian consumer a breather at the beginning of the new year, reducing the costs of transport, production, and heating, especially in sectors linked to diesel, unless sudden geopolitical shocks occur that reverse the market trend.

It is noted that the government had raised the prices of both types of gasoline by 5 piasters per liter at the beginning of the current December, and the price of diesel by two piasters per liter, while the price of kerosene has remained stable for about two years.

Thus, the current prices in the local market are as follows:
    •    90 Octane Gasoline: 85 piasters/liter
    •    95 Octane Gasoline: 108 piasters/liter
    •    Diesel: 70.5 piasters/liter
    •    Kerosene: 62 piasters/liter
