On Saturday, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan launched the Ummah City project, which represents a new model in urban development and long-term population growth management, adhering to sustainability and modernity standards, opening promising economic and investment opportunities, and is the nucleus for a futuristic model city for the youth and the next generation, with precise organization and planning, extending its development phases over 25 years and spanning multiple governments.
The project launch is in execution of the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II to the government in the Royal Directive Letter, which instructed continuation of work on this project due to its pivotal role in alleviating pressure on the cities of Amman and Zarqa through partnerships with the private sector, and for its important economic, investment, and social dimensions, aligning with the goals of the Economic Modernization Vision within the quality of life focus.
Hassan reviewed the project plans that will be established during the first phase of the Ummah City project which will be built on an area of 40,000 dunums out of a total half a million dunums, and the Jordanian Company for Developing Cities and Government Facilities will oversee and facilitate the completion stages, work will start at the beginning of next year and will extend until 2029, with some of it being completed within two years.
Upon completion of Ummah City, it will not be a new capital or administrative city, but its project comes to accommodate future population needs in the Kingdom, especially in the cities of Amman and Zarqa, which are expected to reach a population of 11 million in 25 years if the population growth continues on its trajectory from the past decade.
