More than 1000 patients have died waiting for evacuation from Gaza since July 2024, the World Health Organization announced on Friday.
The organization's Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stated on "X" that "1092 patients died while waiting for medical evacuation between July 2024 and November 2025."
Tedros clarified that this number comes from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza and it is "likely lower than the actual number."
The Director-General of the World Health Organization added, "Since October 2023, the organization and its partners have evacuated more than 10600 patients with serious health problems from Gaza, including more than 5600 children in need of intensive care."
He called for "more countries to begin accepting patients from Gaza," urging for "the resumption of medical evacuation operations to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem," noting that "there are people whose survival depends on it."
After more than two years of Israeli aggression
On Friday in Geneva, WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic said that approximately 18500 patients, including more than 4000 children, still need to be transferred for treatment outside Gaza.
An official from Doctors Without Borders stated in early December that these numbers include only officially registered patients and that the actual number of patients waiting is much higher.
So far, more than 30 countries have received patients from Gaza, but only a few countries, including the UAE and Egypt, have received large numbers of them, according to Doctors Without Borders.
