Iran continues cloud seeding to combat drought

The Public Relations Department of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard's Aerospace Forces announced that cloud seeding operations will continue until the end of spring in some regions of the country.

The department noted that cloud seeding operations began more than a month ago in several regions of the country and will continue until the end of spring in three main areas, aiming to increase rainfall and contribute to the improvement of the water resources situation.

According to reports, the targeted regions include the northwest of the country (Lake Urmia basin in West Azerbaijan and East Azerbaijan provinces), the northeast of the country (Khorasan province), and the central plateau (Zayandeh Rud river basin in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari and Isfahan provinces).

In reference to several operational flights carried out in the past days, a report issued by the Public Relations Department of the Aerospace Forces of the Revolutionary Guard stated:

"These flights are conducted at the request of the Ministry of Energy, based on the forecasts of the National Meteorological Organization. After the announcement of the mission, the aviation units prepare the aircraft and carry out the operation."

The report added: "According to assessments conducted by specialized and responsible institutions, cloud seeding operations can increase rainfall by 18 to 25 percent and are used as a supplementary solution in managing water resources in the country."

The report confirmed that all cloud seeding flights are carried out according to the highest safety standards and only under suitable weather conditions, and these operations aim to reduce the effects of drought and improve the condition of the main water reservoirs in the country.
