The Russian ambassador to Iraq, Alprus Kotrashiev, said Russia will not hand over the former Syrian President Bashar Assad to Damascus.
Kotrashiev added in televised statements on Thursday, responding to a question regarding the possibility of his country handing Bashar Assad over to Damascus after requests from the new Syrian leadership under Ahmad Al-Shar': «We granted Assad humanitarian asylum».
In another context, Kotrashiev confirmed the death of Iraqis while fighting in the ranks of the Russian army, noting that Moscow granted visas to their families for humanitarian reasons.
