Water Solar Energy Projects Save 8 Million Dinars Annually

Khaberni - The Minister of Water and Irrigation, Raed Abu Saud, inaugurated the operation of the photovoltaic solar energy project at the Zarqa-Ma'in station in the presence of the European Union ambassador, Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas, the Secretary-General of the Water Authority, Sofian Al-Batayneh, the CEO of Miyahuna, Mohammed Al-Auran, and representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The project has a capacity of 1 megawatt and an annual output of 2.6 gigawatts, costing 1.2 million dinars, funded as a grant from the European Union and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The project is expected to save approximately a quarter million dinars annually in operating costs for Jordan Water Company-Miyahuna, as part of the renewable energy projects launched with support from the European Union and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which includes the Disi project with a capacity of 24 megawatts and an annual production of 80 gigawatts, aiming to supply water sources and reduce operating costs by about 8 million dinars annually.

Minister Abu Saud expressed his thanks and appreciation to the European Union and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for their continued support in achieving the strategic goals of the water sector, including reducing operating costs, improving services provided to citizens, and sustaining water services.

He also pointed to the importance of enhancing the local environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and providing clean energy sources, in addition to creating job opportunities that contribute to sustainable development.
