Khaberni - The Kuwaiti Court of Appeal upheld the death sentences for four Iranian defendants caught while trying to smuggle 322 kg of drugs, following two days after the new law on drug and psychotropic substances control was enacted.
The Al-Qabas newspaper reported that confidential information reached the Kuwaiti drug enforcement indicating that a major drug smuggling operation was imminent, to be conducted within Kuwaiti territorial waters. Following up, the coastal radar system detected a vessel coming from Iran entering territorial waters.
It added: "We monitored a speedboat receiving it within the territorial waters, and thereafter a security force consisting of coast guard patrols, maritime security patrols, and drug enforcement officers was formed to closely monitor the situation. The defendants were caught at the moment of receiving and handing over, with 8 bags containing 322 kilograms of hashish found in their possession."
