Meta collaborates with Amazon to stream Instagram on TV screens for the first time

Khaberni - Amazon and Meta announced a new collaboration that has led to the launch of the Instagram for TV app, which allows Instagram users to watch and share Reels content on TV screens, a move aimed at expanding the experience of short content beyond smartphones.

The companies stated that the new app is now available for download through Amazon Store on a selected range of Fire TV devices, with support for multiple account logins, allowing users of the same household to use up to five different accounts on the same device.

The Instagram for TV app allows users to watch Reels on large screens, in addition to liking the content and reading comments and interactions, as well as sharing the clips, searching for content creators and other users, and exploring topics of interest to them.

The app relies on Instagram's own algorithm, which means that suggested content will appear to users in the same way as it does in the mobile application.

Meta explained that the Reels within the app will be organized into channels according to user interests, to facilitate content discovery, while after logging in, users can browse friends' profiles and search for favorite content creators.

Amazon confirmed that the app is currently available in the United States on a number of Fire TV devices, including: Fire TV Stick HD, Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Max (First and Second Generation), Fire TV 2-Series, Fire TV 4-Series, and Fire TV Omni QLED Series.

This announcement comes shortly after Amazon launched the Fire TV Stick 4K Select in India, which supports 4K Ultra HD video playback with HDR10+ content support, and includes the Alexa voice assistant for searching content across multiple platforms from the home screen.

The launch of Instagram for TV reflects a growing trend towards integrating social media platforms with TV screens, in an attempt to enhance the consumption of short content and expand its reach to a broader audience inside homes.
