Seminar on Applied Sciences Discusses Prospects for Political Modernization in Light of the Royal Speech


Khaberni - The Private University of Applied Sciences, in cooperation with the Elaf Center for Studies and Research, held a seminar titled "House of Representatives: Prospects for Political Modernization in Light of the Royal Speech", with the participation of a number of House of Representatives members, and attended by a broad academic and student audience.

The seminar was sponsored, on behalf of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Economic and Investment Committee, MP Khaled Abu Hassan, with the attendance of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, MP Maysoun Al-Qawab'ah, and the Chairman of the Youth and Sports Committee, MP Mohammad Al-Muharameh, while the dialogue was moderated by former Minister His Excellency Dr. Mohannad Al-Mubaydin.

MP Khaled Abu Hassan confirmed that the path of political system modernization has started to bear fruit, pointing out the inclusion of a number of young MPs and 27 women in the House of Representatives, reflecting the state's direction towards expanding political participation. He elaborated that there are ongoing efforts to enhance the program-based blocs under the dome, contributing to the development of parliamentary performance. He also emphasized the points stated in the King Abdullah II’s royal speech about the continuation of the political modernization journey and marching forward with comprehensive reform pathways, confirming the clarity of the Jordanian Constitution in separating the powers, with a complementary relationship between the legislative and executive powers to serve the national interest.

For her part, MP Maysoun Al-Qawab'ah stressed that the House of Representatives plays a pivotal role in translating royal directives into effective legislation and oversight, reflecting the aspirations of the citizens and keeping up with the requirements of the stage. She pointed out that the royal speech emphasized the importance of advancing the performance of the legislative authority and enhancing the approach to program-based party work, which contributes to building trust between the citizen and their constitutional institutions.

In his turn, MP Mohammad Al-Muharameh explained that direct dialogue with university students represents an important space that combines parliamentary experience and the intellectual energy of the youth, embodying the essence of political modernization based on dialogue between generations. He highlighted the importance of enhancing youth participation in political and public life, within the vision of the Jordanian state for comprehensive modernization in its political, economic, and administrative tracks, placing the citizen at the core of the modernization process and its main driver.

In his speech, Dr. Haitham Abdullah Abu Khadija, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Private University of Applied Sciences, asserted that the royal speech constituted a clear roadmap for the comprehensive reform journey, reinforced state principles, and opened wide prospects for political modernization based on participation, rule of law, and enhancing parliamentary life. He referred to the pivotal role of the House of Representatives as a fundamental pillar in the national work system, and its responsibility for representation, legislation, and oversight, affirming that political modernization is a steadfast national path based on deepening awareness and fostering a culture of dialogue and responsibility.

On his part, former Minister His Excellency Dr. Mohannad Al-Mubaydin clarified that the seminar comes within the framework of enhancing national dialogue on the path of political modernization, deepening an informed understanding of the contents of the royal speech, noting that universities form a vital environment for generating political awareness, and transforming modernization from texts and legislation into real practice contributing to the continuation of national building.

The seminar witnessed an extensive dialogue between university students and the participating MPs, discussing legislative and oversight mechanisms, and prospects for empowering youth in party work and political life, in an interactive atmosphere that reflected the university's commitment to enhancing political culture and instilling values of participation and national responsibility.
