Khaberni - Hebrew media outlets have revealed that Israel is preparing for a new military confrontation with Hezbollah as the deadline for disarming it south of the Litani River approaches at the end of the year, while Washington still sees a possibility to prevent escalation.
According to what was reported by the newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth" from Israeli officials, "the confrontation with Hezbollah has become inevitable as the organization recovers and strengthens at a faster pace, and that Israel has informed Washington that the Lebanese army is not carrying out the required task," indicating a decline in American support for a wide Israeli military action against Hezbollah at this stage.
According to the newspaper, Israel has set the end of this month as the deadline for the Lebanese government to disarm Hezbollah south of the Litani River, a deadline that coincides with a scheduled meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida on December 29.
The newspaper added: "Signs of a possible Israeli operation in Lebanon, which the Israeli army is urging the political leadership to approve of, appeared last month with the assassination of Hezbollah's prominent military leader, Haitham Ali Tabatabai, although Hezbollah chose to continue exercising restraint, abstaining even from firing a single mortar shell in response to the assassination of their military leader, a containment policy that was more commonly employed by Israel in previous years."
However, it continued: "But it is unlikely that this restraint will continue in the event of a full escalation. The Israeli army expects Hezbollah to respond with a coordinated barrage of hundreds of rockets, explosive shells, and drones over several days."
Targets List
Meanwhile, Channel "12" Hebrew, yesterday Tuesday, revealed that the Israeli army is preparing a "targets list" in anticipation of launching a wide attack on the Lebanese "Hezbollah."
The channel stated: "While the Israeli Air Force continues to attack Hezbollah targets, it is building a bank of potential targets in case Israel decides to carry out a wide operation against it."
It continued: "The infrastructure of terrorism, major saboteurs, others of lesser ranks, members of the missile project, and weapons depots, all are in the crosshairs of the Israeli army."
According to the channel, "Israel realizes that Hezbollah still possesses long-range missiles and other means that can be used in major battles, as it continues efforts to strengthen its power," adding: "Thus, the Israeli army may intervene and inflict damage on Hezbollah in the near future."
Since last Thursday, Hebrew media have been discussing the completion by the Israeli army of a plan to launch a "wide attack" against Hezbollah sites if the Lebanese government fails to dismantle its weapons before the end of 2025.
