Where does Rapid Support get drones from

Khaberni - Military and strategic expert Colonel Hatim Karim Al-Falahi stated that Rapid Support Forces had been able to acquire numerous technical capabilities and military capacities in the past period, enabling them to use drones to strike various locations in Sudan.

He highlighted the existence of a "market" that enables Rapid Support to acquire these drones and use them in military missions, especially since many commercial drones can be modified and converted into combat or kamikaze drones.

He also explained that drones can be used for intelligence purposes to spy and gather information over distances ranging from 10 to 15 kilometers, and can be used to strike long-range targets according to their capabilities.

The operational range of Rapid Support drones exceeds 1600 kilometers, which, according to Al-Falahi, indicates and confirms the "great capabilities" that Rapid Support acquires.

Modified Drones
During the first year of the war in 2023, the Sudanese army carried out 280 drone strikes on Rapid Support locations, compared to only 10 strikes conducted by Rapid Support.

However, the situation changed between 2024 and 2025, as Rapid Support, with the aid it received, managed to carry out strikes on distant locations reaching the shores of the Red Sea, indicating that its capabilities and military potential had evolved and improved during this period.

According to Al-Falahi, satellite images showing various types and models of drones made in China make it very likely that Rapid Support could acquire them through states dealing with China in the armaments sector, although arms deals between countries have clear terms specifying how these weapons should be used.

He pointed to reports confirming that Rapid Support had acquired modified drones from Serbia, in addition to the support it had been receiving from the Russian Wagner since the year 2023 until mid-2024.

Regarding the expected scenarios for the drone war, the military expert explained that it depends on several factors:

The external support that provides Rapid Support with these capabilities and capacities.
The ability of these drones to secure an existing ground strategy, with forces that use them as support and fire support forces.
Rapid Support may also use drones to cut off supply routes of the Sudanese army, in addition to the intelligence and espionage dimension.
It is worth mentioning that the war in Sudan broke out on April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths, and displacing more than 10 million people, including hundreds of thousands of injured, making it one of the biggest humanitarian crises in the world.
