Khaberni - In some cases, there is blood in a child’s stool, so what does that indicate?
To answer this question, the German Association of Pediatricians and Adolescents stated that the presence of blood in a child's stool has several causes, ranging from simple to serious, explaining that the cause is often in the anal area; where small skin tears or hemorrhoids often result from constipation, and may bleed easily.
The cause may also be due to a food allergy; as it can irritate the lining of the intestines and cause minor bleeding.
Infants who breastfeed may swallow blood from the mother's breast inflammation. If this swallowed blood enters the digestive system, it then appears later as a red streak in the stool.
Intussusception
If bloody diarrhea occurs, it often indicates an infection. Causes include intussusception (sliding of parts of the intestines inside each other), and in this case, parts of the intestines are trapped and may die if not treated. The warning signs include the following:
- Redness, swelling, or stiffness in the abdomen
- Fever
- Paleness
- Vomiting
If these symptoms appear, it is crucial to consult a doctor immediately for necessary medical care.
