Jordan condemns the Knessets approval of a law targeting UNRWAs operations

Khaberni - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned in the strongest terms the approval by the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Security Committee of a bill targeting the operations and presence of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), undermining its ability to provide its vital humanitarian services, including the seizure of its property and the prohibition of providing essential services to its facilities, and considered it a blatant breach of international law and a violation of the immunities and privileges of United Nations organizations.

The official spokesperson of the ministry, Ambassador Fouad Al-Majali, expressed the kingdom’s absolute rejection and strong condemnation of Israel's continued systematic campaign to restrict UNRWA and limit its indispensable and vital role in providing services to Palestinian refugees in its five areas of operation per its UN mandate.

Al-Majali warned against the continuation of the bill, clarifying that Israel's actions constitute a breach of relevant international laws and agreements, and target the symbolism of UNRWA which affirms the Palestinian refugees' right to return and compensation under international law, in a clear endeavor to deprive the Palestinian people of vital rights and services recognized by the international community and relevant UN resolutions, especially Resolution 194.

Al-Majali called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities, to act immediately and effectively to pressure Israel and counter the decisions and practices targeting UNRWA, and to provide necessary protection for the agency's facilities, services, and staff, in addition to providing the necessary political and financial support for it to continue delivering its vital services to Palestinian refugees.
