Khaberni - Results from two major medical studies conducted in China and the United States have shown an effective way to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
According to The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, the results showed that people with prediabetes who succeeded in restoring their blood sugar levels to normal had significantly reduced rates of death due to cardiovascular diseases and hospital admissions due to heart failure.
The scientists followed the participants for a duration ranging between 20 to 30 years, comparing those whose prediabetes returned versus those who continued to have elevated blood sugar levels, noticing that individuals with prediabetes who returned their blood glucose levels to normal had their risk of death from cardiovascular diseases or hospital admissions due to heart failure reduced by approximately 50 to 60%, along with a significant decrease in the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
The return of prediabetes indicators to normal was determined based on several indicators, including the HbA1c test which reflects the average blood sugar level over the past two to three months.
The researchers confirmed that a healthy lifestyle is an important factor in itself for preventing heart and arterial diseases, but returning blood sugar levels to their normal values may play a key role in long-term heart protection, complementing the standard preventive measures for cardiovascular diseases.
