Khaberni - Water and Irrigation Minister Raed Abu Al-Saud signed an agreement on Tuesday for the rehabilitation project of the Abu Al-Zaygan water desalination station in Balqa Governorate, with Jose Antonio Caballero, the General Manager of the Spanish company Desalia, and Hussein Attya Contracts company for a total of 36.9 million dollars funded by the European Investment Bank EIB and engineering services from the US government.
According to the ministry's statement, the agreement aims to develop the current station to operate with Reverse Osmosis RO technology and increase its production capacity to 27,000 cubic meters to meet the needs of 17 areas in Deir Alla and Al-Karamah and serve 100,000 citizens until 2050.
Minister Abu Al-Saud stated that this project is part of national efforts aimed at improving water supply in most regions of the kingdom as part of the Economic Modernization Vision and the Water Sector Strategy 2023-2040, in addition to improving water supply and enhancing the role of the local private sector in implementing infrastructure projects that reflect on improving service provided to citizens.
Abu Al-Saud appreciated the support of friends in the European Union, especially through the European Investment Bank EIB and the US government, for providing support and funding necessary for implementing water projects to face various water challenges as the demand increases.
