Khaberni - His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the opening session of the Indian-Jordanian Business Forum in Amman today, Tuesday.
The forum aims to enhance economic partnerships, expand cooperation horizons, and open new markets between the two countries, organized by the Jordan Chamber of Commerce with the participation of representatives from more than 20 leading Indian companies and national companies operating in vital sectors.
His Majesty the King emphasised in his speech at the opening of the forum, attended by His Royal Highness Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, the Crown Prince, Jordan's keenness on expanding economic and investment cooperation in various sectors with India, and increasing trade exchange.
His Majesty expressed hope that the forum would contribute to advancing the economic partnership between the two countries towards new horizons, serving common priorities, and praised the remarkable growth witnessed by India in various economic fields.
His Majesty highlighted the key competitive advantages in the Kingdom in major sectors such as food, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, textiles, information and communication technologies, energy, mining, tourism, advanced industries, and logistics services.
His Majesty pointed out the importance of leveraging Jordan's strategic geographic location and its advanced logistic capabilities to promote the establishment of integrated logistic and manufacturing hubs, noting that the integration of Jordan's transport network with the economic corridor between India, the Middle East, and Europe (IMEC) represents a significant opportunity to enhance cooperation in this field.
On his part, the Indian Prime Minister referred to his country's interest in developing economic cooperation with Jordan, particularly in sectors such as digital infrastructure and communications, pharmaceutical and medical device industries, and agriculture.
Modi noted that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, has become a bridge connecting many countries, stressing the necessity of utilizing this advantage to enhance trade cooperation opportunities.
He added that in earlier times, Indian trade to Europe used to pass through Petra, highlighting the importance of restoring these routes for the development of future trade growth.
The forum witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Jordan Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, aimed at strengthening relations and economic cooperation to facilitate trade, encourage investment, and coordinate between sectors while exchanging knowledge and expertise.
Attending the opening session of the forum were the director of His Majesty the King's office, engineer Alaa Batayneh, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, engineer Ya’rub Qudah, the head of the accompanying honorary mission, and the Indian Ambassador to Jordan, Manish Chauhan, along with representatives from the chambers of commerce and the private sector in both countries.
