Khaberni - Researchers from the Cleveland Clinic reported that eating one and a half grapefruits daily contributes to lowering blood pressure by 2 to 3 mm Hg.
The researchers said, "We know that a diet rich in potassium improves blood pressure, and it's not just grapefruit; one should aim to consume more than 4000 milligrams of potassium daily".
How does grapefruit affect?
Julia Zumbano, a cardiac prevention nutrition specialist at Cleveland Clinic, explained the benefits of grapefruit: "Potassium helps regulate blood pressure by balancing and eliminating sodium, and fiber aids in weight and cholesterol management by binding with cholesterol in the intestines and providing a longer feeling of fullness".
According to "Free Will Health", the vitamin C found in grapefruit is believed to reduce inflammation and also improve arterial health.
However, grapefruit may interact with some medications, which could lead to drug toxicity, therefore it is advisable to consult a doctor if consuming this amount of grapefruit daily.
Alternatives to grapefruit
If you do not like the taste of grapefruit or do not want to eat one and a half grapefruits daily, experts from "Free Will Health" suggest consuming alternative fruits.
