Khaberni - A leak of a phone call between the former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and the then Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas Movement, Khaled Meshaal revealed a controversial stance.
In the call, which was broadcast in a documentary, Khaled Meshaal asked Ali Abdullah Saleh to focus in the Arab Summit and the international and regional consultations on stopping the Israeli aggression and lifting the siege on Gaza Strip, as a priority to end the suffering of the civilians. However, the former Yemeni President blamed Hamas for the continuation of the Israeli airstrikes and massacres against the Palestinian people, claiming that the launching of rockets by the resistance gives the Israeli occupation the pretext to target civilians.
The former Yemeni President continued his criticism, stating that the Palestinian rockets are "harmful to the Palestinian people" and called for their immediate cessation, accusing the movement of ending the calm with the occupation and blaming the Egyptian regime led by Hosni Mubarak for its failure.
For his part, Meshaal rejected the former Yemeni President's remarks, questioning: Is it reasonable that the people of Gaza live under siege while the resistance is held responsible for defending its people? He confirmed that Egypt did not offer to continue the calm and to open the crossings, including Rafah, pointing out that blaming Hamas for ending the calm "contradicts the truth."
