Khaberni - Snapchat announced on Monday the rollout of the annual Recaps feature, which allows users to review their top moments on the platform during 2025, in a move that joins the wave of "end-of-year summaries" launched by major digital platforms.
The "Snapchat" summary comes in the form of a short video customized for each user, showcasing the top snaps from Snaps, Stories, and Chats, and reflects the ways users communicate and express themselves throughout the year.
The summary can be accessed by opening the app and heading to the Memories section, where users will see the option “Your 2025 Snap Recap”.
Intense competition for end-of-year summaries
This move comes at a time when companies like "Spotify," "Apple Music," Amazon Music," and "Duolingo" have launched their annual summaries, which have turned into a popular digital tradition that receives widespread user interaction.
Figures reveal user behavior in 2025
Concurrent with the launch of Recaps, "Snapchat" revealed a number of striking statistics about the app's usage over the past year.
The company confirmed that phone calls are still very much present, as users talked through the app for an average of approximately 1.7 billion minutes daily, a nearly 30% increase compared to the previous year.
In the United States alone, users sent more than 5 billion voice messages during 2025, an increase of about 10% on an annual basis.
Group chats remain a fundamental way of communication on the platform, where the number of users sending messages within groups increased by more than 5% this year, while some users sent more than 8,880 messages to their most active group.
Increased engagement
The company explained that the use of Chat Reactions increased by 44% during 2025, with the heart emoji leading the list of most used emoji.
About 3 million additional users used stickers to communicate compared to the previous year.
The annual summary amidst controversy over storage
The launch of the 2025 Recap comes at a time when "Snapchat" faces criticism from some users due to its plans to charge fees for storage starting from next year, as the company announced in September that the free storage space for the Memories feature will be set at only 5 gigabytes.
If a user exceeds this limit, they will need to subscribe to one of the new storage plans, which start with a plan providing 100 Gigabytes for $1.99 a month, while Snapchat + subscribers get 250 gigabytes for $3.99 a month, and Snapchat Platinum subscribers benefit from up to 5 terabytes for $15.99 a month.
Despite the controversy, "Snapchat" bets that the end-of-year summaries will enhance user engagement with the platform and revive their digital memories in an interactive and appealing manner.
