Khaberni - Toyota Motor Corporation announced the arrival of the Yaris GR model in Jordan for the first time, which was developed from the inspiration of challenges and victories in World Rally Championships, the Super Taikyu Series, and the Japanese Rally Championship, equipped with the newly developed "Aero Performance Package" to enhance airflow efficiency, increase vehicle stability, and improve cooling performance; introducing a completely new era for the Yaris model to driving enthusiasts in the region.
The Yaris GR was first launched in Japan in 2020, as the first model from Toyota developed based on a methodology that primarily uses racing as a source; it was based on the expertise of the Toyota Gazoo Racing team, which recently contributed to the company's win of the Manufacturer's Title in the World Rally Championship for the fifth consecutive time, and included precise responses to all the team drivers’ feedback on various road types, ensuring confidence and control in every journey.
In addition to its sporting heritage, the Yaris GR model embodies the professionalism that distinguishes Toyota; where each car is carefully assembled at the GR factory - a dedicated production line within the famous Motomachi facility - by a team of expert "Takumi" craftsmen who dedicate their skills to maintaining the highest standards of precision and performance, and embodying racing-derived technologies with craftsmanship that gives this model its unique character.
On this occasion, Akio Toyoda, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Toyota and chief test driver said:
"The Toyota Yaris GR is designed to win. In the past, we tried to succeed in races by modifying the cars we produce commercially, but we have flipped the equation with this car that transcends improvement limits, and we put the final touches on it with our own hands."
The car is powered by a 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine with direct injection, producing a power output of 296 horsepower and 400 Newton meters of torque. This engine is coupled either with a newly developed eight-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed smart manual transmission that provides precise shifts and a sense of control and pleasure, and comes with a permanent all-wheel-drive system (GR-FOUR) equipped with electronically controlled multi-plate clutch, and three optional driving modes, working to continuously distribute torque between the front and rear wheels; to achieve maximum grip and stability during corners and various surfaces.
In integration with the drive system, the Aero Performance Package enhances downforce, cooling efficiency, and high-speed balance through six precisely designed components, which include an aluminum hood equipped with an air duct inspired by the Yaris GRMN for improved cooling, a lower front lip that reduces lift, ventilation channels on the fenders that expel trapped air from wheel cavities to enhance steering response, a lower cover for the fuel tank that facilitates airflow under the car, a variable rear wing that enhances stability, and ventilation channels in the rear bumper which reduce air entrapment (parachute effect) under high dynamic air loads.
The Yaris GR also uses lightweight materials; such as: aluminum in the hood, doors, and rear cover, and carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (on the roof; which lowers the center of gravity and increases rigidity, while MacPherson struts for the front wheels and double wishbone rear suspension system provide quick-responsive control and balanced driving, while the limited-slip differential system in the front and back ensures excellent traction, and the forged aluminum wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires provide an exceptional level of grip and steering precision.
As with all Toyota models, safety remains a top priority for Toyota Yaris GR. Drivers can feel reassured and at ease through the advanced "Toyota Safety Sense" system; which includes a suite of advanced safety technologies and driver assistance systems designed to support driving under various conditions and enhance it, along with six airbags operating with a supplementary restraint system (SRS), a pre-collision safety system (PSC), emergency steering assist system, intelligent adaptive cruise control (IACC), lane keep assist (LDA) with daytime emergency steering assistance, lane tracing assist (LTA), road sign recognition system (RSA), and finally an adaptive high-beam system (AHS) to enhance night-time visibility.
In addition, the Yaris GR features a blind spot monitoring system (BSM), and a rear traffic alert system (RCTA) with an automatic braking feature to help avoid collisions when changing lanes or reversing, along with an emergency call system (eCall) that automatically notifies the relevant authorities in emergency situations and in the event of a serious accident. Other safety technologies in the car include a hill start assist system (HAC), vehicle stability control system (S-VSC), anti-lock braking system (ABS), brake assist system (BA), and an automatic tire pressure monitoring system (TPWS).
The new Toyota Yaris GR offers drivers the opportunity to express their style and tastes through five distinctive exterior colors; they are: Platinum White Pearl (Mica), Super White II, Luxury Black, Luxury Metallic, and Vivid Red. The interior is available in two stylish sporty palettes; they are: the black theme embellished with red touches reflecting the vigor of GR, or the all-black theme for those who prefer a simple modern look.
The sale of the Yaris GR, supported by the new Aero Performance Package, is set to begin in Jordan from December 15, 2025.
