Avatar Director Downplays AI Concerns in Filmmaking

Khaberni - Globally acclaimed director James Cameron stated that he is not fearful of artificial intelligence in the filmmaking industry, considering that art is not based on averaging previously produced content.

The Canadian-New Zealander director, aged 71, in an interview with the German news agency, said: "Cinematic art is about the unique vision and individual experience of the artist, whether a songwriter, actor, or director."

Cameron, who directed famous films such as "Titanic" and the "Avatar" series, is one of the most successful directors in cinema history, and his new movie "Avatar: Fire and Ash" launches in cinemas on December 17th.

Cameron explained that artistic authenticity cannot be replaced, adding that artificial intelligence can produce content based on existing data, but it cannot mimic an artist's unique imprint, stating: "A lot of mediocre content can be produced and distributed through streaming channels, which networks have been doing for decades, but cinema revolves around the unique vision of the artist."

He also mentioned that this standard remains crucial for awards as well: "We are always looking to see something we haven't seen before.. These models can’t achieve that, so I am not overly worried."

Emphasizing the pivotal role of actors, Cameron, who has won several Oscars, said: "When we watch a film from the Avatar series, we see real performances because it involves presentations by real people."

In his new epic film, actors wear motion-capture suits that record every movement and facial expression, transferring this data to digital characters, allowing the actors' performances to be accurately simulated in the virtual world.
