Khaberni - American director Rob Reiner and his wife, producer Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead inside their home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles, in a murder committed by their son Nick, according to several sources.
According to the information, the Los Angeles police and the city's fire department responded to a call about a medical emergency around 3:30 PM on Sunday.
Upon the teams' arrival at the home, they found a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman who had passed away. It was later revealed that the victims were Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, and that the deaths were due to stabbing.
The Los Angeles police confirmed that the robbery and homicide division took over the investigation, noting that the case is being treated as a murder, and the investigations are still ongoing.
Sources confirmed to People magazine that the perpetrator of the crime is their son Nick, 32 years old.
In a statement published by Variety magazine on behalf of the victims' family, they said: "With profound sadness, we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are devastated by this sudden loss and request privacy during this extremely difficult time."
Rob Reiner is one of the most prominent directors in Hollywood, having directed cinematic works that left a significant mark, including This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, and When Harry Met Sally.
He was also famous early in his career for his role in the TV series All in the Family. Reiner was born in New York in 1947, the son of famous comedian Carl Reiner and actress and singer Estelle Lebost.
Rob met Michele while working on the film When Harry Met Sally, and they married in 1989, and had three children, Jake, Nick, and Romy. Rob also has a daughter, Tracy Reiner, from his previous marriage to the late director Penny Marshall, who died in 2018.
In a previous interview with People magazine in 2016, Nick Reiner talked about his long struggle with drug addiction, which started at an early age and led to repeated stints in rehabilitation centers, and long periods of homelessness. He explained that this harsh experience later inspired him to write the film Being Charlie.
Nick said in that interview that he had returned to settle with his family in Los Angeles after years of turmoil, noting his attempts to rebuild his life anew.
The American authorities are still continuing their investigations to uncover all the circumstances of the crime, while a state of shock and sadness has enveloped the artistic community in Hollywood.
