Khaberni - Dozens of people were killed on Sunday due to floods and floods resulting from heavy thunderstorms in the city of Safi in western Morocco.
The Moroccan authorities stated in a statement that the exceptional floods killed at least 21 people and injured more than 32 others in the coastal Safi province overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
The authorities clarified in a statement that the heavy rains, which lasted for one hour, led to the flooding of about 70 homes and shops with water and the washing away of 10 cars, and many roads were cut off in the city of Safi and its suburbs, while rescue efforts are continuing to help the affected people.
It was reported that 20 other people were evacuated and are currently receiving medical care at Mohammed V Hospital in Safi (governmental).
According to local media, the authorities announced the suspension of studies in the city of Safi and its environs due to poor weather conditions.
In the face of this exceptional situation, the authorities and all concerned sectors have initiated all emergency measures, with a comprehensive mobilization of logistical means and human resources, to ensure immediate intervention and assistance to the affected people.
These efforts include searching for potential missing persons and reactivating road networks and basic service networks in the province.
In recent days, several Moroccan cities have experienced heavy rainfall, along with heavy snowfall in various parts of the country.
