Khaberni - American authorities reported that a suspect is in custody in connection with the shooting incident at Brown University in Rhode Island.
The incident, which occurred during a final exam review session, resulted in the deaths of two students and injured nine others.
The "Washington Post" reported that the suspect in the Brown University shooting has been identified as Benjamin Erickson.
The newspaper noted that he is 24 years old and hails from Wisconsin.
Meanwhile, NBC reported that the suspect is a cyber security officer in the US Army and may have connections with Brown University.
A law enforcement source told CBS News that the suspect was arrested in a hotel overnight and has been detained.
The source added that the suspect is not registered as a student at Brown University.
According to officials, the gunman opened fire in a classroom on Saturday, December 13, 2025, around 16:00 local time (21:00 GMT), in the Holly Engineering building on the eastern edge of Brown University's campus.
The identities of the casualties have not yet been revealed, but Brown University President Christina Paxson told reporters at a press conference on Saturday that all the victims, including those killed and injured, were students at the university.
Christina Paxson stated in a press release issued by the university on Sunday, that some areas of the campus are still restricted as police continue their investigations.
Paxson explained that about 2000 students were moved to safe locations overnight.
Commenting on the incident, President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House on Saturday that the university shooting was "a terrible thing."
According to the Gun Violence Archive, this attack at the university brings the number of mass shooting incidents in the United States to 389 this year.
The Gun Violence Archive defines mass shootings as those that result in the deaths or injuries of four or more victims, excluding the assailant.
