Khaberni - The Lebanese news site "Lebanon Debate" reported on Sunday evening that units of the army chased smugglers from "Al Dandash" in the northern Bekaa area.
The site mentioned that during the pursuit the smugglers fled to Syrian territory, leading to clashes between the Lebanese Army and elements of the Syrian Public Security.
It pointed out that the clashes lasted for about half an hour approximately, and occurred in the Al-Mashrafeh area located between Hermel and Al-Qaa.
The same source explained that the Lebanese Army worked on cutting off the smuggling route by setting up dirt barriers, and also carried out a widespread field deployment in the area of the conflict.
The Lebanese site confirmed that the situation returned to normal amidst a deployment of the army.
Smuggling paths that have been used for years to transport people, drugs, fuel, and various goods are widespread in the areas of Hermel, Al-Qaa, and Al-Mashrafeh.
