Khaberni - The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday the appointment of deputies for the Syrian Minister of Defense, Marhaf Ayoo Qasrah, in the southern and western regions.

According to Asim Ghalioun, the official of the media and communication administration in the Syrian Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Mohammed Diaa Saleh Tahhan was appointed as the deputy for the Minister of Defense for the western region, and Brigadier General Ahmed Issa Al-Sheikh was appointed as the deputy for the Minister of Defense for the southern region.

Ahmed Issa Al-Sheikh was born in 1972 in the village of Serjeh in Jabal al-Zawiya in Idlib Governorate and studied religious sciences before engaging in military work with the outbreak of the Syrian revolution.

At the start of the Syrian revolution, he founded the "Sham Falcons Brigade," which later became one of the prominent factions in Idlib Governorate and merged into the "Islamic Front," which included several factions.

Brigadier General Al-Sheikh was detained in the "Palestine Branch" in Damascus by the ousted regime forces for 11 months before being released in 2011 as part of a presidential amnesty.

During the Syrian revolution, he lost four of his brothers and his eldest son, Issa, while his father disappeared in the prisons of the ousted regime after being arrested in the 1980s.

Tahhan announced his joining the "Ahrar Al-Sham Movement" and was appointed as a military commander in the movement, which merged in 2018 with the "Nour al-Din al-Zenki Movement" to form the "Syrian Liberation Front," one of the factions operating in northern Syria.

Previous appointments
Asim Ghalioun, the official of the media and communication administration in the Ministry of Defense, mentioned that the ministry appointed General Idris as an advisor to the National Academy of Military Engineering on October 9 last year.

The public relations in the Ministry of Defense confirmed to Enab Baladi the accuracy of the appointment of the two prominent officers, while the ministry did not announce this through its official handles.

General Idris is one of the most prominent officers who defected from the previous regime, announcing his defection on August 20, 2012, when he was a brigadier general, then moved to Turkey facilitated by the "Free Syrian Army" and returned to the areas controlled by the opposition in the cities of Aleppo and Idlib.

He chaired the "Free Army" General Staff from December 2012 until March 2014.

Brigadier General Hassan Al-Hammada also announced that he has taken over his new duties as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Air Forces and Air Defense, on October 8.

Al-Hammada is a brigadier pilot who defected with his "MiG 21" aircraft on June 21, 2012, heading to Jordan, landing at the "King Hussein Military Air Base" in the Mafraq area, during a training flight over the Daraa Governorate, southern Syria.
