Jordan A study to link the government vehicle tracking system with artificial intelligence

Khaberni - The Public Services Committee in the Senate, on Sunday, during its meeting with the Minister of Transport, Nidal Al-Qatameen, at the ministry building, reviewed completed and ongoing projects in various transport modes, including the electronic tracking system for government vehicles.

Al-Qatameen affirmed the ministry's keenness to keep the Parliament informed about the efforts made by the ministry and its bodies to develop the transport sector in the kingdom, appreciating the committee's interest and its follow-up on the ministry's projects, which enhances coordination between the government and the legislative authority and serves the interest of the nation and citizens.

He explained that the vehicle tracking system at the Ministry of Transport has been developed in line with modern technological advances, aiming to rationalize spending, stop waste, reduce accidents and environmental emissions, pointing to the importance of having specialized staff in the fields of roads and traffic, along with building an accurate and comprehensive database that helps reduce traffic congestion and accident rates.

The ministry said that the project of tracking government vehicles is one of the most prominent national initiatives aimed at enhancing governance and transparency and improving the management of resources in the public sector, where the Ministry of Transport has managed to link more than 14,500 government vehicles within an advanced central system that allows real-time monitoring and precise analysis of operational data.

It added that the project achieved tangible results at the operational and financial levels, as it contributed to reducing the unjustified use of vehicles by about 62%, and reducing fuel expenses by approximately 26%, resulting in a direct financial saving of about 4.5 million Jordanian dinars until the year 2024, in addition to providing more than 40 operational and strategic indicators to support decision-makers.

In the context of future development, the Ministry of Transport is currently studying linking the electronic tracking system with artificial intelligence technologies, aiming to move to predictive analysis and smart decision-making, which contributes to improving fleet management, supporting preventive maintenance, and enhancing the efficiency of government services.

For his part, the head of the Public Services Committee in the Senate, Mustafa Hamarneh, emphasized that the committee gives special importance to the transport sector due to its direct impact on economic development and the quality of life of citizens.

He praised the efforts made by the Ministry of Transport in developing infrastructure and smart systems, especially the electronic tracking project for government vehicles, which constitutes an advanced model in sound governance and controlling public spending, confirming the committee's continued follow-up on these projects and its support through legislative and regulatory actions to achieve the national interest.

Moreover, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transport, Fares Abu Dayyeh, presented an overview of the electronic tracking system, its operating mechanism, and the operational and organizational benefits it provides, highlighting the most prominent ministry projects, including the Amman and provincial centers transport project, which launched its first phase by operating 127 buses equipped with smart systems, electronic payment systems, and adherence to specific schedules, in preparation for expansion in subsequent phases to include other governorates and link the districts with their centers.

Additionally, the Director of the Electronic Tracking Directorate in the Ministry, Mohammad Hamzat, gave a detailed presentation on the technical components of the system and the monitoring and analysis mechanisms it provides.
