Martyrdom of a Palestinian Prisoner in the Israeli Ofer Prison

Khaberni - Palestinian prisoner institutions announced today, Sunday, the martyrdom of administrative detainee Sakhr Ahmed Khalil Za’oul (26 years old), from the town of Husan west of Bethlehem, inside the Israeli occupation prisons.

The Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority and the Palestinian Prisoner Club confirmed his martyrdom, noting that this incident comes at a time when Israeli violations against Palestinian prisoners in the prisons are increasing.

Prisoner Za’oul had been held as an administrative detainee since June 11, 2025, in Ofer Prison in the occupied West Bank. He is the second prisoner from Bethlehem province to be martyred inside Israeli prisons in the past week after the martyrdom of administrative detainee Abdul Rahman Sabatin.

Since the outbreak of the Israeli genocide war on Gaza in October 2023, the number of martyrs inside the occupation prisons, whose identities are known, has risen to 86, including 50 prisoners from the Gaza Strip.

Slow Execution

The Prisoners' Media Office of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) held the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for the martyrdom of Za’oul, calling for an independent international investigation into the crimes committed by the Israeli prison administration, especially the policy of slow execution practiced by the occupation against the prisoners.

The office demanded the disclosure of the fate of missing prisoners and the handing over of the bodies of the martyrs as well as holding Israel's leaders accountable and imposing international sanctions to stop the prison crimes.

Reports indicated that the number of Palestinian prisoners in occupation jails exceeds 9300 prisoners, including more than 50 female prisoners and 350 children. Israeli media also reported the martyrdom of 110 Palestinian prisoners inside the prisons since the extremist National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir took office.

Za’oul's martyrdom reflects the extent of suffering faced by Palestinian prisoners in the absence of international supervision over the continual Israeli violations inside the prisons, increasing pressure from human rights institutions and the international community to hold Israel accountable for its crimes.
