Khaberni - Khaberni - Deputy Hala Al-Jarrah, Assistant Speaker of the House of Representatives and member of the Islamic National Party, issued a statement in which she expressed sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims of the "Shamoosah" heater incidents, whom she described as "martyrs of the nation", praying to God Almighty to envelop them in His vast mercy, and to grant the injured quick recovery.
Al-Jarrah emphasized that this tragic incident was not an unexpected fate, amid repeated similar incidents previously without taking effective deterrent measures to prevent their recurrence, raising significant questions about the negligence in monitoring, oversight and accountability. She expressed her astonishment at the lack of warnings about the dangers of these heaters this year until after several tragic incidents occurred.
And Al-Jarrah stressed the need to hold all responsible parties accountable without exception, whether they were negligent in supervision or permitted the circulation of these dangerous heaters or ignored the repeated warnings, affirming that the blood of the innocents must not pass without true and firm accountability that restores trust in the sovereignty of the law and protects the lives of citizens.
Al-Jarrah in her statement stated that protecting citizens represents the utmost national priority, demanding immediate and decisive decisions to prevent the circulation of these deadly means, and to enhance safety measures to prevent the recurrence of such tragedies that claim the lives of Jordanians every winter.
The Public Security Directorate formed a governmental investigation committee to examine the heaters sold and available in the market after the death of 10 people, and 5,000 units of "Shamoosah" were precautionarily detained from factories and shops, while samples were sent to the Royal Scientific Society to determine the causes of the technical malfunction.
"Shamoosah" are known to be low-cost gas heaters marketed as economical and safe, however, a series of deadly incidents has prompted authorities to sternly warn citizens against using them.
