The chairman of the National Guidance and Media Parliamentary Committee, Dr. Hussein Al-Amoush, announced his intention to submit a parliamentary memorandum on Sunday morning, demanding the dismissal of the Minister of Industry and Trade, following the situation involving "Al-Shamusa" heaters which caused the deaths of 10 people in two days due to suffocation accidents.
Al-Amoush, during an intervention on "Al-Mamlakah" screen, said that he will also demand the government for the resignation of the Director of the Standards and Metrology Institution, affirming that this step comes within the context of enforcing ethical responsibility, which requires that the concerned department or ministry take responsibility through the resignation of the primary official when such a significant error occurs.
Al-Amoush also called on both the Minister of Industry and the Director of Standards to voluntarily submit their resignations on Saturday evening, emphasizing that if the government does not initiate this, he will proceed with submitting the parliamentary memorandum on Sunday morning.
The spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate has called on the citizens to immediately stop using gas heaters known as "Al-Shamusa" of all types, after it was proven that all recent suffocation cases were caused by them.
Meanwhile, the Standards and Metrology Institution announced that it has banned three local factories producing this type of heaters from selling them in the local market, pending the results of technical examinations being conducted by the Royal Scientific Society, indicating that it has seized more than 5,000 heaters, and sent samples for testing.
