Khaberni - A video circulating on social media in China sparked widespread outrage, showing a woman pleading with her husband to buy her a winter jacket, in an incident that caused significant controversy over the past few days.
The video, filmed in front of a clothing store in a shopping center in Xiaogan, Hubei Province, China, shows the woman kneeling, begging her husband to buy her a synthetic feather jacket priced at 299 yuan (about 40 US dollars), while the husband scolds her for several minutes, according to local media.
In the video, the husband is heard screaming: "I will not buy it," before leaving the scene, leaving his wife continuing to plead on the ground.
The video quickly spread online, reaching 60 million views under the incident's hashtag, and provoked widespread reactions from users who condemned the husband's behavior as extremely harsh.
The clip also sparked a heated debate about the importance of a woman's financial independence and her ability to live with dignity.
On his part, Li Jianheng, a lawyer residing in Henan, clarified that the incident's authenticity has yet to be proven, adding that if the video is fabricated, those involved might be accused of inciting gender conflict through concocted scenarios, with the possibility of a 5 to 10-day imprisonment if the video's repercussions are significant.
If the incident is genuine, the woman could file a lawsuit against her husband to claim her rights and divide shared assets.
The lawyer emphasized that if the husband controls all the money and refuses to provide for his wife’s daily needs, it grants her the right to resort to the courts, with the possibility of gathering evidence of insult or psychological abuse before taking any legal action.
