Shamousa Kills 9 People in Jordan

The Jordanian Public Security Directorate warned of the dangers of using gas heaters known locally as "Shamousa", after they caused the death of 9 people in two separate incidents in Zarqa Governorate, due to carbon monoxide poisoning from the leakage..

The spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate stated that the same heater was involved in both incidents, prompting the authorities to issue an urgent warning against their use, and immediately began testing samples of these heaters to ensure they meet public safety standards.

It was confirmed that joint teams began to inventory these types of heaters within the local markets and factories designated for their production, in preparation for banning their sale until laboratory results are published.

The first incident claimed the lives of five members of a single Arab family, including the mother and her children, while the second incident resulted in the death of four people from another family in the Hashimiah area of Zarqa Governorate.

The Directorate reiterated its call for citizens to regularly check heating devices, and follow preventative guidelines for using heaters, emphasizing the necessity of ventilating homes and not leaving heaters on while sleeping.
