Khaberni - On Friday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, received a phone call from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, during which continued firm cooperation between Jordan and the United Nations and its organizations was confirmed.
Safadi and Guterres emphasized the need for regional and international efforts to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and provide it with the necessary support to continue delivering its vital services to Palestinian refugees.
They also reaffirmed the significant humanitarian role played by the agency in the Gaza Strip, which continues to face a humanitarian disaster due to the destruction caused by Israeli aggression and Israel's ongoing prevention of sufficient humanitarian aid entries and the imposition of illegal restrictions on UN organizations, especially UNRWA.
They stated that UNRWA is indispensable and its role cannot be understated, rejecting all attempts to target it, and confirming the importance of the UN General Assembly's decision to extend the mandate of UNRWA for an additional three years.
Jordan welcomed the decision made today by the UN General Assembly to adopt the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice regarding Israel's obligations concerning the presence and activities of the United Nations and other international organizations in the occupied Palestinian territories, which stated the necessity for Israel, as the occupying power, to adhere to its obligations under international humanitarian law, approve, and facilitate aid and relief programs provided to the inhabitants of the occupied Palestinian territories, including those by the United Nations and its bodies, specifically UNRWA, and not to prevent such aid from reaching them.
Today, Foreign Ministers from the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt issued a statement condemning the Israeli forces' raid on the UNRWA headquarters in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem, denouncing this assault as a blatant violation of international law and the sanctity of UN premises, which is deemed an unacceptable escalation.
Jordan organized on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, the ministerial meeting to rally support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
