Khaberni - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees "UNRWA," expressed its concern today, Thursday, about the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in Gaza due to the storm "Byron," stating that the Palestinians in the region who have lost everything are facing a new wave of suffering.
Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the Agency, stated in a post on the platform "X" that "the storm Byron tightens its grip on Gaza".
He added, "The Palestinians who have lost everything and need everything are facing a new wave of suffering".
He continued: "More hardship for the displaced families living in temporary shelters, as the rains bring floods, destruction, and additional health threats".
He confirmed that "the UNRWA teams, who are themselves displaced, continue to work to support people wherever they can," explaining that they “are engaged in sewage and flood water removal, garbage clearing, distributing tarpaulin covers, winter clothes, and blankets, and providing medical care”.
Since the dawn of Wednesday, Gaza has been hit by a severe weather depression causing thousands of the displaced people's tents in various areas of the region to be submerged after heavy rainfall, with forecasts expecting the stormy weather condition to continue until Friday evening.
