Jordan Inspecting one and a half million vehicles during the winter traffic safety campaign

Khaberni - The Public Security Directorate concluded its winter campaign for the technical inspection of vehicles this Thursday morning, which was carried out through the traffic departments and the Royal Administration for Environmental Protection, with the aim of enhancing traffic safety and ensuring vehicle readiness during the winter season.

The Director of Traffic Management, Brigadier Raed Al-Assaf, during his talk to the Public Security Radio, indicated that one million and 544 thousand vehicles underwent technical inspection this year, marking an increase of 30% compared to the year 2024, reflecting the campaign's field expansion and the citizens' keenness on inspecting their vehicles, confirming that 90% of these vehicles were technically sound.

He added that most of the vehicles that underwent the inspection were brought voluntarily by their owners to the various inspection sites across the kingdom. He noted that the most common deficiencies found during the campaign were malfunctions in windshield wipers, weak front and rear lighting, tire wear, along with the absence of fire extinguishers and reflectors in a number of vehicles.

Brigadier Al-Assaf explained that only 9% of the vehicles that did not pass the inspection did not rectify their conditions during the week allocated for rectifying violations, pointing out that the technical malfunction indicator remains noted on the vehicle's traffic record until it is corrected and reviewed by one of the traffic management or licensing departments, including those operating during the evening period.

He clarified that the traffic departments, in cooperation with the Media Administration and Community Police, intensified their awareness efforts during the campaign, where a large number of awareness publications and videos were broadcast through official platforms, as part of enhancing drivers' traffic awareness during the winter season.

Brigadier Al-Assaf concluded his remarks by affirming that the campaign would undergo three phases of evaluation, the first being short-term, followed by medium and long-term assessments, noting that the expected results would manifest in a decrease in accident rates in the upcoming period due to the cooperation and compliance of citizens with traffic safety standards.
