Agreement to Establish a 100 Megawatt Solar Power Station to Reduce Industrial Costs

Khaberni - The National Electricity Company and the Specialized Sun Company, on Thursday, signed an agreement for establishment, supply, and transit connection for the solar power generation project with a capacity of 100 MW.

The agreements were signed by the General Manager of the National Electric Company, Sofian Al-Batayneh, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Specialized Sun Company, Abdullah Al-Shawabkeh, under the sponsorship and presence of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh.

During the signing, Al-Kharabsheh emphasized the importance of the energy sector as a fundamental lever for achieving economic development in the kingdom by supporting various sectors and achieving growth rates referred to by the Economic Modernization Vision, stressing the ministry's role in reducing burdens on the industrial sector and its initiatives to support the sector, including delivering natural gas to cities and industrial groupings in various governorates, in addition to licensing companies to transfer gas to areas far from industrial clusters, and bids for delivering natural gas to industrial cities, as well as the opportunity to benefit from the application of time-linked tariffs.

On his part, Al-Shawabkeh confirmed the company's intention to start the project by next January, highlighting its importance in reducing the energy bill and enhancing the competitiveness of the local product globally.

In the same context, Al-Batayneh indicated that signing the agreements is considered one of the initiatives capable of supporting the "Economic Modernization Vision" programs aimed at reducing energy costs on factories, by supporting energy efficiency in small and medium-sized factories, reducing electricity and fuel bills, and increasing the contribution of renewable energy to reduce costs and enhance the economic independence of the kingdom, in addition to supporting renewable energy by raising the contribution of renewable energy in the Jordanian electricity mix according to the national energy sector strategy which aims to reduce the reliance on imported fuel and long-term cost reduction for factories and other sectors.

Under the agreements, the National Electric Company will build a 400 kV switching station, a 400 kV transmission line, and carry out electrical and civil works to expand the IPP3 400 kV switching station in order to connect the 100 MW solar power station to the Jordanian electrical system. The Specialized Sun Company, which was established under the umbrella of the Amman Chamber of Industry, will contract to build this station and supply the electrical energy produced from the solar power station to several factories affiliated with the Amman Chamber of Industry.

According to a statement, the industrial sector is expected to feel the positive and direct impact of the project within two years on the sector from manufacturers, investors to consumers, by increasing the competitiveness of Jordanian industries through reducing operating costs and increasing efficiency, in line with the directions of the Economic Modernization Vision led by His Majesty the King with paths of comprehensive reform focusing on accelerated growth, improving the quality of life for citizens, enhancing competitiveness, and sustainability, aiming to achieve comprehensive development and integrate the Jordanian economy into the global economy.
