How to prevent breast cancer

Dr. Maxim Ignatov, a breast cancer specialist, points out that childbirth and subsequent breastfeeding, eating fiber-rich foods, and reducing alcohol consumption are all factors that lower the risk of developing breast cancer.

Dr. Ignatov also confirmed that breast cancer is one of the diseases that can be effectively prevented, noting that when detected early, it can be successfully treated.

He explained that a healthy lifestyle and proper nutrition play a pivotal role in prevention. The diet should include fiber-rich foods, as they are a source of plant estrogens, which reduce the risk of endocrine-dependent tumors. Furthermore, reducing alcohol consumption is crucial, as drinking 100 ml of alcohol daily increases the risk of breast cancer by 10%.

He also pointed out that childbirth and subsequent natural breastfeeding are important preventive factors. According to scientific studies, natural breastfeeding for 12 months reduces the risk by 4.3%, and each birth reduces the risk by 7%, with emphasis on the fact that natural breastfeeding should not continue under unfavorable conditions.

Dr. Ignatov also advised all women and girls, starting from adolescence, to visit a breast disease specialist once a year. He recommended undergoing breast ultrasound imaging, and after the age of forty, to have mammography (mammogram), as these examinations allow for the early detection of any abnormal growth.
